The Podcast Sonic Boom

What is a podcast?

A podcast is an audio file stored on the Internet that you can receive via an RSS feed or download to your MP3 player.

The concept of podcast isn’t new. In fact, the MP3 program downloads have been available on the Web since 2000. It didn’t catch on until 2004 when there were over 22 million people owning iPods or MP3 players. This provides the impetus that podcasting needs. At present there are about thousands of podcast shows available, however, it is predicted this number will grow at least a thousand times within the next two years.

Why such an explosive growth? People all over the world are hungry for the concept of podcast. Under intense competition and economic pressure, people are very busy and stressed out. Yet, they need more time to improve themselves or to chill out (to re-create themselves). This is where podcasting comes in.

With podcasting, you can listen to whichever type of programs you choose. If you are a dog lover, you could listen to dog shows. If you are an exercise buff, you could listen to fitness programs. If you want to move up the ladders, you can listen to shows that teach you how. If you want to be a successful internet marketer, you could listen to programs taught by experts. The possibilities are endless!

More importantly, you can download the programs or the shows into your computer, CD, MP3 player, iPod, and take it with you. You can listen and learn, or be entertained, while you are commuting, exercising, or gardening. You can kill two birds with one stone. What a time saver! And as they say, “Time is Money!”

So as a podcatcher, using podcasting will save you time. With the extra hours in your day, you can either use it to make more money or simply relax or enjoy life.

As a podcaster, using podcasting will also save you time and make more money.

First of all, did you know that it basically cost you nothing to make a podcast? You need only three things: (1) A simple microphone to plug into your sound card, (2) A recoding program (you can get it free at http://audacity.sourceforge.net )and (3) A place to host your MP3 files. With these, you can begin to record and share your own podcast.

A podcast is not only easy to produce, it is a much more effective communication than written words. Imagine, you can pause and be silent for a couple of seconds, or you can change the tone on certain words to emphasize your point.

Besides, you can speak much faster than writing. This means that you can create a program or a talk show much faster than writing an eBook. Unlike emails, you can avoid your message being filtered out. Again, this will save you time and make you more money.

Because podcasting is a low cost production, it is expected that thousands of people will jump into podcasting, even for many millions who are not internet marketers now.

Basically, podcasting encourages creativity and free speech. You can talk what you are passionate about. There are no limits. You can create unique products quickly and sell it to special niche groups.

Remember, there are probably millions of niches out there, but there are only thousands of podcast shows out there now. Don’t miss out on this opportunity, so jump in early. It will explode like blogging in 2002, or even more.

Maybe one day, you’ll be the next Rush Limbaugh or Howard Stern, having your own podcast empire.
